Best Practices for Whole-Genome Sequencing of SARS-CoV-2

Hosted By: AMP-APHL SCV2 WGS Working Group

Speaker(s): Working Group Members
Description: Public health laboratory members of the Association of Public Health Laboratories (APHL) and diagnostic laboratory members of the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) were among the first responders during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our experiences identified the need to establish best practices for whole-genome sequencing (WGS) of SARS-CoV-2; therefore, a working group of both organizations have drafted recommendations, including for wet laboratory functions, bioinformatics, and communication of metadata. We will review the draft recommendations briefly and invite audience questions and feedback.

Bridging Molecular and Digital Pathology with Single Cell and Spatial Multiomics

Hosted By: 10x Genomics

Speaker(s): TBD
Description: The vast complexities of disease require complementary approaches to gain a deep understanding of underlying pathologies, from tissues to single cells down to the molecular level. 10x Genomics Visium Spatial products provide a comprehensive view of the relationships between cellular function, phenotype, and location in intact tissue sections (fresh frozen or FFPE), and our Chromium Single Cell products enable molecular profiling with multiomic capabilities to analyze hundreds to hundreds of thousands of single cells.

Join us to learn about current and upcoming products and see how you can transform your understanding of disease progression by dissecting various cell types and functional states, detecting novel biomarkers, and deciphering spatiotemporal differences in healthy and diseased tissue. Resolve highly complex disease phenotypes with single cell and spatial analyses to translate discoveries into actionable insights.

Meet the Authors: AMP's In Silico Validation Working Group

Hosted By: AMP

Speaker(s): Working Group Authors
Description: In silico approaches for next-generation sequencing (NGS) data modeling have utility in the clinical laboratory as a tool for clinical assay validation. AMP’s In silico Validation Working Group has reviewed the different types of in silico data, how in silico data is created, and how it can be used in the clinical laboratory. Come and meet the authors to discuss both current and future uses of in silico NGS data.

AMP Resources for Technologists

Hosted By: The AMP Training and Education Committee

Speaker(s): TBD
Description: Do you work in a clinical lab?  Are you eager for knowledge, solutions to tough lab issues and ways to advance in your career?  If your answer is yes, please join us at the Innovation Stage, “AMP Resources for Technologists” for a quick overview of technologist-focused events happening during AMP 2021. We will include a tour of the on-line resources AMP provides especially for technicians and technologists.

You will learn about career opportunities and certifications available to clinical lab workers.  You will find out how to access AMP Molecular in My PocketTM quick reference cards, certification practice exams, and recommended book lists.  In addition, you will discover how to tap into your very own AMP Technologist listserv, a chat room that allows you to interface with your colleagues across the country to help address challenges in your lab and to celebrate your successes!

Meet the Authors: AMP’s Pharmacogenomics Working Group for CYP2D6

Hosted By: AMP

Speaker(s): Working Group Authors
Description: With a goal of promoting standardization of clinical PGx testing across different clinical laboratories, this AMP Pharmacogenomics Working Group has published recommendations on CYP2C19, CYP2C9 and Warfarin allele selections previously, and now the CYP2D6 genotyping allele selection for clinical laboratories to use as guidelines when designing and developing these PGx assays. Come meet the authors and find out what’s new and what’s next in PGx for AMP.

The Precision Oncology Sequencing Initiative (POSI) - Building a Diverse, Variant-rich Biobank to Fast-track CDx Development

Hosted By: Precision for Medicine | Biospecimen Solutions

Speaker(s): Cullen Taylor, MD, Medical Director at Precision for Medicine, Biospecimen Solutions
Description: Genomic technologies continue to widen the window into understanding mechanisms of disease and potential drug targets. Precision for Medicine launched a large-scale sequencing initiative in 2021 where oncology specimens are being annotated for over 2,700 unique variants to support CDx development programs. Dr. Taylor will provide a peek into the biobank and NGS program, and discuss lessons learned about sample age, international vs U.S. specimen quality, sample types, and data generation and accessibility. The program has expanded into 11 indications using tumor tissues and liquid biopsy, testing both DNA and RNA variants including hotspot mutations, CNVs, genes, and fusion isoforms.

Meet the Authors: AMP’s Germline Confirmation Working Group

Hosted By: AMP

Speaker(s): Working Group Authors
Description:  Orthogonal confirmation remains recommended by many current next-generation sequencing (NGS) clinical practice guidelines for germline (constitutional) testing to reduce potential false-positive results, but adds cost, time, and complexity to clinical laboratory workflows. AMP’s Germline Confirmation Working Group has developed draft recommendations for orthogonal confirmation practices that, in concert with existing guidelines, seek to provide additional guidance to laboratories. Come and meet the authors to further discuss best practices in germline variant confirmation testing.
